Acclaimed by international critics, especially in American media outlets such as the New York Times, the Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times, Septeto Santiaguero is recognized today as one of the leading groups of traditional Cuban music, admired by music lovers and dancers of all generations.

The name Septeto Santiaguero exists since 1931, with the creation of one of the most prestigious and long-standing references of the traditional sound that emerged out of Santiago de Cuba to become ambassadors of Cuban music worldwide.

In 1995 the virtuoso guitarist Fernando Dewar transformed the legendary group into a contemporary ensemble. Having actualized the Son Cubano musical tradition in its own manner, today the septet celebrates 23 years of performing in over 30 countries. The group’s repertoire covers a wide range of danceable rhythms, including son, guaracha, boléro, guajira, guaguancó, and trova, with guitars, percussionists and singers accompanying a single trumpet.

With eight albums to its credit, Septeto has had multiple nominations at the Latin Grammy Awards in the Latin tropical category, garnering the award for best recording in 2015 for No Quiero Llanto, a tribute to the legendary duo Los Compadres, on the Cuban EGREM label.
